What is your background?
I spent 16 years working in Banking before moving to Hampshire, where I took on the role of Contract Manager for the temporary staffing contract at QA Hospital in Portsmouth. Over the course of 6 years, I managed all aspects of temporary staffing for the Trust, including recruiting Bank staff, overseeing the supply chain, managing bookings, handling payroll, and building face-to-face relationships with clients.
What is your role within the NHS Workforce Alliance and what does it involve?
I serve as a Band 8a Lead Category Manager, focusing on the workforce category supporting trusts in the South East region. My role involves managing and overseeing workforce procurement and strategy.
Why are you passionate about this?
Having worked closely with Clinical Directors, HR Managers, Procurement Leads, and Executive Boards, I have developed a strong understanding of how to cultivate trusted relationships that help expand the Workforce Alliance’s presence and influence.
What is the greatest challenge you face at work?
Currently, I don’t see any challenges but rather view my role as a valuable opportunity to expand both my procurement expertise and workforce experience.
What was your first job and how has it impacted your career?
My first job at the age of 16 was at McDonald’s in Chessington World of Adventures. This role taught me essential customer service skills, how to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and gave me a foundational understanding of P&L management and forecasting.
How would you spend a perfect day off?
I would spend the day outdoors with my partner and our children, enjoying activities like camping and exploring. On a rainy day, I’d love nothing more than to stay at home with my boys, watching movies and playing games.
