The NHS Workforce Alliance was delighted to attend the Convenzis Healthcare Workforce Conference North, held in Manchester on 7 February 2024.
Our contribution included an event stand managed by experts in workforce category management from across the Alliance and a short presentation in the afternoon. We’d like to thank everyone who visited our stand and say how much we enjoyed meeting new NHS colleagues and catching up with those that we already work closely with.
As ever, the event organisers had convened an impressive range of speakers, covering topics as diverse as nursing apprenticeships, building a sustainable NHS, and working collaboratively across ICB / ICS systems.
Our talk was delivered by Will Laing, Operations Director, who provided some thoughts on the critical role commercial thinking and practice can play in the development and execution of workforce strategies. He emphasised the need for a joined-up approach and coordination between HR, finance and commercial colleagues at local level to help drive improvements in workforce planning and improve the effective deployment of temporary staff.
Will noted the critical role suppliers can play as well, he explained “the knowledge, expertise and experience the supply market provides is a valuable resource in workforce planning, and building stronger and more collaborative relationships with your own preferred suppliers will yield real benefits – and ultimately help us to deliver patient care”.
